It’s that time of the year where trips away in the caravan maybe less frequent and unfortunately the next trip may not be until next Spring. If this is the case and you are unable or choose not to store your caravan over winter at home, then let us help with a few things to consider when choosing an “away from home” Storage facility.
Good security is essential, it needs to be hard for the opportunist thief to gain access without restricting the access for you. Check if the storage facility has opening hours, access systems and if notice is required to remove your caravan. You may wish to gain access to your caravan over the Winter months to carry out routine maintenance such as turning the wheels or even to check all is in order. Be sure when choosing the storage facility to check the ground conditions as you would not want to be paddling in the mud every time you need to get to the caravan or find it covered in leaves if stored by a tree.
Some sites offer under cover storage but this maybe slightly more expensive. It is important to check your insurance policy to see if there are any restrictions regarding storage, some insurance Companies insist on using sites which they approve and by not adhering to this it may inadvertently invalidate your insurance should you have the need to claim. Home storage also comes with security restrictions which need to be followed.
A list of local storage sites can be found through the internet but personal recommendation is always best so do ask your fellow travellers and club members.
